Four-time GRAMMY winner Sarah Jarosz has announced her new album, “Polaroid Lovers,” and she’s bringing it to The Ark! The record is releasing on January 26, 2024 via Rounder Records. It features a decidedly more electric sound than Sarah’s earlier bluegrass-flavored efforts, and it shows this brilliant artist maturing as a songwriter. A Texas native, she’s spent most of her adult life living in New York City, but shortly before writing the album Sarah left her adopted home to join her soon-to-be husband in Nashville.

The son of a small-town farming community, Cody Diekhoff logged plenty of highway and stage time under the name Chicago Farmer before settling in the city in 2003. Profoundly inspired by fellow Midwesterner John Prine, he’s a working-class folk musician to his core. His small-town roots, tilled with city streets mentality, are turning heads North and South of I-80.

“I saw a literal manifestation of the sacred feminine, and had this profound sense that I was meant to embody it,” recalls singer-songwriter Lindsay Lou after journeying through a hallucinogenic ritual that would inform the way she processed waves of grief in the sea of change ahead of her. The loss of her grandmother, the end of her marriage, and the overwhelming turmoil of COVID lockdowns found the Nashville-based artist on a spiritual journey of self-knowledge and healing with this gift from the mystic swirl. On her brand-new album, “Queen of Time,” Lou explores that quest across ten tracks of tender, heartbreakingly beautiful music. Produced by Dave O’Donnell (James Taylor, Sheryl Crow, Heart) ) and featuring a gamut of guests including GRAMMY-winners Billy Strings and Jerry Douglas, Queen of Time celebrates love and loss, and captures a new arc of haloed beauty.

Ann Arbor’s own Delta 88 combines a variety of musical influences from the American palette to craft their own modernized version of that classic sound, a plaintive take on alt-country akin to haunted mountain spirituals played through a distortion pedal. From wide channels of dynamic, emotional arrangements to somber barroom ballads and anthemic battle cries, Delta 88’s music blazes a trail through the Americana wilderness. The band has four studio albums under their belt, with the most recent featuring production by Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Joe Henry. Delta 88’s music has been heard on stages throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe with the likes of bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley, country star Emmylou Harris, and singer-songwriter Buddy Miller, among others. It’s been a while since we’ve had this durable Michigan band at The Ark, so come and see what they’ve been up to musically!

at Michigan Theater Join us for a special one of a kind show of songs, stories, and visuals. Lucinda Williams’ music has gotten her through her darkest days. It’s been that way since growing up amid family chaos in the Deep South, as she recounts in her candid new memoir, Don’t Tell Anybody the Secrets I told You. Over the past two years, it’s been the force driving her recovery from a debilitating stroke she suffered on November 17, 2020, at age 67. Her masterful, multi-Grammy-winning songwriting has never deserted her. To
wit, her stunning, sixteenth studio album, Stories from a Rock n Roll Heart, brims over with some of the best work of her career. And though Williams can no longer play her beloved guitar – a constant companion since age 12 – her distinctive vocals sound better than ever.

Adrian + Meredith, says Music City Roots, bring “alt-country led by a former punk rocker with a voice a bit in the raspy direction of Tom Waits … with a strong pulse from the fiddle and a stomping rhythm.” Adrian + Meredith are Adrian and Meredith Krygowski. Adrian has been songwriting and performing since 2007. He’s originally from central Wisconsin, lived in D.C. for many years, and now lives in Nashville with Meredith, who has played old-time fiddle and clogged since she was child, and started performing with Adrian during 2012 recording of “Roam.” Before that, she was a member of the MSU-based band The Bard Owls. This duo brings a whole new meeting of the minds between old-time music and punk! Adrian + Meredith have spent the last seven years with 150+ dates a year touring the U.S, and since 2018, also in Poland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Britain. Their music embodies the spirit of the human story with a nod to punk, the heart of folk, the flavor of polka, and the bounce of swing.
