David Fricke of Rolling Stone describes them as "a quartet with a rich line in acoustic textures and chamber-rock dynamics." The band's sound, with classical strings, tight vocal arrangements, bluegrass and rock instrumentation, and smart lyricism, is the product of complete collaboration among the four close friends. The group has no frontman; instead, lead vocals are traded from moment to moment, and each song features a new combination of instruments and textures, pulling heavily from folk, retro-pop, barbershop, and chamber music. The music Darlingside plays is serious, cinematic, and deeply moving. Darlingside has been featured on NPR's World Cafe and in Paste magazine, and they come to Michigan with a new album, “Eliza I See.”
Jacob V. Warren is well known to Ark audiences. He's played with the eclectic and rising acoustic music group Westbound Situation, and he's a frequent guest with San and Emily Slomovits, often under the billing San, Emily, & Jacob, and in a folk-classical duo with violinist-guitarist Grant Flick. Now it's time for a Jacob Warren solo show! This local multi-style bassist performs an eclectic mix of solo double-bass arrangements in various genres. Special guests on this show will include Grant Flick, John Solari, Zola Hightower, and more!
The Arcadian Wild is a four-piece indie folk/pop group from Nashville, TN. Led by songwriters Isaac Horn and Lincoln Mick and Bailey Warren on fiddle, The Arcadian Wild confidently inhabits and explores an intersection of genre, blending the traditional with the contemporary. Combining elements of progressive bluegrass, folk, and formal vocal music, The Arcadian Wild offer up songs of invitation; calls to come and see, to find refuge and rest, to journey and wonder, to laugh and cry, to share joy and community and sing along.
New York singer-songwriter, harpist and guitarist Lizzie No is one of the most exciting new voices in contemporary indie folk music. Her 2017 debut album, "Hard Won," was hailed as "simultaneously understated and fervent" by Billboard magazine. No's 2019 album, "Vanity", was a hit at college radio stations across the country, cracking the NACC Top Adds Chart. Rolling Stone called the first single, "Narcissus," a "crisp alt-rock gem" and a Song You Need To Know. Since then she's released a sophomore album and a surprise home-studio-made EP, and she's bringing a bold new album, "Halfsies," to The Ark.
The elevator at The Ark is out of service while technicians make repairs. Attendees for this show will need to be able to walk up and down the stairs to the second floor of The Ark where the show takes place. Jake Blount is an award-winning interpreter of Black folk music. Initially recognized for his skill as a string band musician, Blount has charted an unprecedented, Afrofuturist course on his pilgrimage through sound archives and song collections. Composer and hammer dulcimer virtuoso Simon Chrisman brings an unusual and path-breaking style to the instrument. One of Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch," Nic Gareiss has been hailed by the New York Times for his "dexterous melding of Irish and Appalachian dance" and called "the most inventive and expressive step dancer on the scene” by the Boston Herald.

From the heart of Lincoln, Nebraska, The Wildwoods have grown into a folk/Americana trio rooted in rich harmonies and heartfelt storytelling. They’ve packed concert venues even in years between releases, crowdfunded an ambitious music video in hours, and joined by the hundreds when she launched her “music x climate action” Patreon in 2022.
