Charitable Bequests

Please consider including a gift for The Ark in your estate plan. There are several ways to do this:

Bequests
By including The Ark in your will or trust, you can specify that some (or all) of your assets come to us after your lifetime. If you creating your will, or adding a codicil to your will, or establishing a trust, please review the sample language below that can be used in making a specific contingent or residuary bequest to The Ark.

We strongly encourage you to consult your attorney and/or financial advisor to prepare or update your will or trust and any other estate planning documents. Bequests may be included in a new will or trust. Or, your attorney may draft a codicil to your existing will or an amendment to your existing trust to provide for a charitable contribution.

Specific Bequest
A specific bequest is a provision in your will or trust that allows you to give (or allocate) a specific dollar amount or percentage of your estate to The Ark.

Here is sample language which may be helpful:

I give, devise, and bequeath to The Ark, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization located in Ann Arbor, MI , (a) the sum of $___________, or (b) ______% of my estate for the benefit of The Ark to be used for its greatest needs. should go to your dashboard to delete this page and create new pages for your content. Contingent Bequest
A contingent bequest is a form of specific bequest that is made only if or when certain conditions are met. For example, if the named primary beneficiary (the first named recipient of your gift) does not survive you, you may indicate the contingent beneficiary (the alternate recipient of your gift) using a contingent bequest.

Sample language could be similar to the following:

If the above named legatees or devisees (or beneficiaries) should predecease me, then I hereby give, devise and bequeath the same to to The Ark, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization located in Ann Arbor, MI , to be used for its greatest needs.

Residuary Bequest
A residuary bequest is honored after all specific bequests have been made. In this case, The Ark would receive your gift after any other named beneficiaries received their gifts by way of specific or contingent bequests.

Sample bequest language could be as follows:

I give, devise, and bequeath to The Ark, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization located in Ann Arbor, MI , (a) all or (b) _____% of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate for the benefit of the The Ark to be used for its greatest needs.
