NPR has called Susan Werner "folk's empress of the unexpected." Susan is a triple threat at folk awards ceremonies with her luxuriously smooth and strong voice (she's a former opera singer), riveting lyrics, and haunting melodies. "When it comes to crafting a song, Ms. Werner's only peers are Jimmy Webb and Paul Simon," raves No Depression. Susan can do it all! She's a virtuoso on both piano and guitar, and her recordings have ranged from hardcore folk to Broadway music, humorous songs, a skeptical yet sympathetic take on gospel, songs of farming, and even classical arrangements of classic rock. Susan has a way of reinventing herself for each new project, but there's a core of humor sophistication, and musical craft that endures. Susan’s newest studio recording (release date Sept 27, 2020) features 10 Werner originals in a nod to the songforms and sounds of Americana and Country. Features lapsteel wizard Mike “Slomo” Brenner, pedal steel master Jim Cohen, a co-write with John Gorka (Wine Bottles) and Susan’s signature lyrical poetry and wit. Duo King Margo opens.
