A Benefit for SafeHouse
The Amplify Project will hold a ticketed virtual fundraising show at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 1st with local guitarist, producer and songwriter Dani Darling to benefit Safe House, a local non-profit organization whose mission is to provide safety, support, advocacy and resources for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Dani Darling is an indie chanteuse, guitarist, producer and songwriter from Ann Arbor, MI with a soulful intimate sound. Her influences are Erykah Badu, Radiohead, and Old Hollywood movie scores - she is a Detroit Metro Times "Artist to Watch in 2020" and leads a 4 piece band. Darling's newest release "Mage" premiered to critical acclaim, with both singles "S + M" and "All Stars" being heralded as WDET's "Best Releases of 2020". Her new EP "Mage" is now streaming.
Known as Amplify Kickback, the show is part of a series of concerts and panel discussions aimed at supporting community organizations in Washtenaw County. Artists from The Amplify Fellowship will be featured while a community organization will receive a portion of the proceeds from the ticketed livestream event.
The Amplify Project is an umbrella of initiatives intended to support the intersection of community engagement and artistic expression in Washtenaw County. Sponsored by Leon Speakers and Grove Studios, The Amplify Fellowship supports the creative efforts of musicians with recording and engineering costs in exchange for volunteer service to local nonprofits and supportive agencies in the county.
“Bringing the artists and the organization representatives together in this way just makes sense,” says Maia Evans, co-founder of The Amplify Project. “We’re hoping to show our audience the incredible journey of both the fellows and the communities they serve. Along the way, we hope to establish the Leon Loft as a community space, and we are extremely grateful for the sponsorship and support we have already received.”
With Evans at the helm, The Ark in Ann Arbor, and Grove Studios are collaborating to produce tonight's event. Grove Studios and Leon Speakers have been working together throughout the last year to bring robust virtual content to the community in lieu of the COVID-19 crisis.
