Michigan Americana that's "organic and soul-driven"
The Judy Banker Band, fronted by Ann Arbor–based songwriter Judy Banker, features a Michigan all-star band including David Roof, Tony Pace, Alan Pagliere, John Sperendi, and Brian Williams. The band will be livestreaming their Ark Family Room show on 10/8, 8pm EDT, from a beautiful century-old barn in Dexter, Michigan, owned by well-known area conservationist Barry Lonik. They will be performing tracks from Judy’s latest studio album, "Buffalo Motel," as well as tunes from Judy’s other recordings. Judy emerged as a solo artist on the roots music scene in 2014, releasing two studio albums in two years to critical acclaim. With the release of "Buffalo Motel" in January 2020, Judy reveals a new expansive, layered sound that transcends her traditional acoustic Americana and folk-country roots. Driving drum and bass tracks, hook-driven instrumentals, and innovative arrangements push her sound toward a countrified indie rock territority that lies somewhere between Midwest farmlands and the mountains of Montana. Described by critics as “a monster singer-songwriter” with music that feels “momentous and ruminative,” Judy and her band bring an exciting energy to the Michigan music scene.
