You may have encountered Carsie Blanton through her great John Prine tribute that circulated earlier this year, but there's a lot more to this New Orleans songstress than that. "Like the singer-songwriters she admires, Carsie Blanton is making folk-based music that prizes wordplay and an antic sense of humor. You can hear jazz, Motown and power pop in her melodies and phrasing, which makes her stuff delightfully surprising but doesn't help her in commercial categorization," says Ken Tucker of NPR. "Her tone never becomes cute because she phrases with such purpose. And what she's talking about is almost always earthy if not downright down and dirty." Carsie has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe since 2006, as a headliner and as support for Paul Simon, The Wood Brothers, The Weepies, Shawn Colvin and many more. Her live performances, which include material from every album, have been praised for their wit, humor, and captivating charm.
