Indie rock icons
Hoboken, New Jersey's Yo la Tengo (Spanish for "I've got it!" as spoken by baseball outfielders) has been around since 1984, and by now it's fair to call them an institution of alternative rock. With a sound palette that includes both sweet melodies and electronic experiments, they've always been the band that has bridged the gap between critical acclaim and wide indie popularity. As their career has developed, notes The New York Times, they've specialized in "guitar-driven songs about the compromise and joy of daily life." Cult favorites or just plain tireless experimenters, Yo La Tengo are always delivering something unexpected. Their music at various times has encompassed folk, punk, electronica, jam band music, shoegazer rock, and more. After more than 30 years in the studio and on the road, Yo La Tengo can do just about anything at any time!
This show takes place at The Majestic Theatre, 4120 Woodward, Detroit.
