SUMMARY:Joe Pernice
DESCRIPTION:Ticket prices on our website reflect all-in pricing for purchases made online or by phone.  This means the price you see includes the ticket price plus MUTO’s ticket processing fee. Tickets may be purchased with no included fees in person at The Ark during box office hours. \nTonight’s show is free for Ark members at the Solo ($50) level and up! Show your membership card at the door for admission. \nJoe Pernice is a songwriter celebrated for his rare ability to pair luminous melodies with quietly devastating emotional depth. Over the course of a career spanning more than three decades\, Pernice has built a body of work that is literate\, melodic\, and enduring—music that reveals new layers with each listen. \nFirst gaining attention in the early 1990s with alt-country band Scud Mountain Boys\, Pernice later founded the Pernice Brothers\, a project that would firmly establish his reputation as one of the most refined songwriters of his generation. From the initial Overcome by Happiness and across numerous albums\, his songs have been marked by elegant arrangements\, strong pop instincts\, and lyrics that balance wit\, melancholy\, and narrative precision. Drawing from folk\, power pop\, and chamber pop traditions\, Pernice’s music feels both timeless and unmistakably personal. His collaborations with a range of musicians include Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub)\, Joshua Karp\, Neko Case\, Aimee Mann\, and the iconic Jimmy Webb. \nCritics have consistently praised his work for its craftsmanship and emotional intelligence. Major publications including Rolling Stone\, Pitchfork\, Magnet\, The Guardian\, and Mojo have highlighted his gift for melody and his ability to cloak dark\, complex themes in deceptively beautiful songs. \nBeyond music\, Joe has written one of the first books in the original 33 1/3 book series. His novella explores the Smiths’ Meat is Murder and Catholic high school life in Boston in 1985. Joe’s novel\, It Feels So Good When I Stop\, is a dark\, irreverent story of a young man trying to sort through love\, life and commitment. \nWith his latest album\, Sunny\, I Was Wrong\, Joe continues his signature style of rich storytelling melded with inspired arrangements\, each song a world unto its own.

SUMMARY:Vienna Teng
DESCRIPTION:Ticket prices on our website reflect all-in pricing for purchases made online or by phone.  This means the price you see includes the ticket price plus MUTO’s ticket processing fee. Tickets may be purchased with no included fees in person at The Ark during box office hours. \nSongwriter Vienna Teng re-emerges this fall with her mashup song pair We’ve Got You – her first new music in over a decade – but her fans have been here the whole time. They’ve packed concert venues even in years between releases\, crowdfunded an ambitious music video in hours\, and joined by the hundreds when she launched her “music x climate action” Patreon in 2022. \nThat kind of devotion has poured forth since 2002’s Waking Hour\, which landed her on NPR’s Weekend Edition\, The Late Show with David Letterman\, and the top of Amazon’s music charts. Across four more studio albums that followed – the chamber folk of Warm Strangers\, the jazz-inflected Dreaming Through the Noise\, the indie epic Inland Territory\, the bright electro-pop in Aims – Vienna has paid homage to her genre-bending heroes like Paul Simon and Tori Amos\, while carving a path all her own. Together with her captivating live performances and thoughtful online presence\, her work has built a loyal following across generations and continents.  \nVienna’s new mini-EP We’ve Got You reflects the complexity of her life over the past decade: climate change work\, community building\, parenthood. Two songs\, each titled “We’ve Got You\,” act like fraternal twins: one an indie-pop tribute to inspiring leaders\, the other a chamber-folk paean to unsung caregivers. Played simultaneously\, they reveal a new intricate whole: a mashup by design\, and a love letter to social movements. \nAppropriately\, Vienna now also hosts climate action workshops on tour and online\, which participants have described as “rocket fuel” and “the perfect antidote to despair.” It’s an exciting new chapter in the ever-evolving love story between an artist and her audience.

SUMMARY:The Wildwoods
DESCRIPTION:Ticket prices on our website reflect all-in pricing for purchases made online or by phone.  This means the price you see includes the ticket price plus MUTO’s ticket processing fee. Tickets may be purchased with no included fees in person at The Ark during box office hours. \nFrom the heart of Lincoln\, Nebraska\, The Wildwoods have grown into a folk/Americana trio rooted in rich harmonies and heartfelt storytelling. Formed by husband-and-wife duo Noah (guitar) and Chloe Gose (violin)\, and joined by longtime friend and bassist Andrew Vaggalis\, the band crafts songs that feel both intimate and expansive—tales of home\, hope\, and the open road. \nTheir newest release\, Dear Meadowlark (2025)\, is a love letter to the land that raised them. Inspired by seasons of touring\, homesickness\, and rediscovery\, the album weaves chamber-folk arrangements with poetic lyricism\, highlighting their signature harmonies and acoustic instrumentation. It follows a growing discography that includes Sweet Nostalgia (2017)\, Birdie & Goose (2017)\, Across a Midwest Sky (2019)\, and Foxfield Saint John (2023). \nInfluenced by artists like Watchhouse\, Nickel Creek\, and Gillian Welch & David Rawlings\, The Wildwoods blend folk\, bluegrass\, and indie sensibilities into something uniquely their own. Their music is lush with nature imagery\, layered harmonies\, and an emotional sincerity that captures the quiet beauty of their Midwestern roots. \nWhether weaving tales from their rural upbringing or capturing fleeting moments from life on tour\, The Wildwoods create a sound that feels like home…wherever you are.

SUMMARY:The Arcadian Wild
DESCRIPTION:The Arcadian Wild is a four-piece indie folk/pop group from Nashville\, TN. Led by songwriters Isaac Horn and Lincoln Mick and Bailey Warren on fiddle\, The Arcadian Wild confidently inhabits and explores an intersection of genre\, blending the traditional with the contemporary. Combining elements of progressive bluegrass\, folk\, and formal vocal music\, The Arcadian Wild offer up songs of invitation; calls to come and see\, to find refuge and rest\, to journey and wonder\, to laugh and cry\, to share joy and community and sing along. \nThe band’s 2023 album Welcome marks the start of a captivating new chapter for the genre-bending trio\, who returned to the studio with renewed purpose and insight after devoting the last few years to a series of critically acclaimed singles and EPs. Like much of the band’s catalog\, the album blurs the lines between chamber folk and progressive bluegrass\, drawing on everything from country and classical to pop and choral music with lush harmonies and dazzling fretwork\, but this time around there’s a rawness to the writing\, an embrace of candor and simplicity that cuts straight to the heart of things like never before. The result is perhaps the most arresting collection yet from a band known for its ability to stop listeners dead in their tracks\, an exquisitely beautiful celebration of community\, connection\, and the power of belonging that feels tailor-made for these challenging times.

SUMMARY:Jake Blount\, Simon Chrisman\, and Nic Gareiss
DESCRIPTION:The elevator at The Ark is out of service while technicians make repairs. Attendees for this show will need to be able to walk up and down the stairs to the second floor of The Ark where the show takes place. \nJake Blount (pronounced: blunt\, they/he) is an award-winning interpreter of Black folk music based in Providence\, RI. Initially recognized for his skill as a string band musician\, Blount has charted an unprecedented\, Afrofuturist course on his pilgrimage through sound archives and song collections. In his hands\, the banjo\, fiddle\, electric guitar and synthesizer become ceremonial objects used to channel the insurgent creativity of his forebears. From transfixing solo sets to full-band festival appearances complete with crowd-surfing and ecstatic chants\, Blount’s performances – like his recent Smithsonian Folkways release\, The New Faith – seamlessly merge centuries-old traditional songs with the trappings and techniques of modern Black genres. \nComposer and hammer dulcimer virtuoso Simon Chrisman (he/him) brings an unusual and path-breaking style to an instrument that has previously been thought to have limited range and technique\, combining “chamber music’s finely calibrated arrangements with bluegrass’s playful virtuosity and pop music’s melodic resourcefulness.” (The Boston Herald) His touch and sophisticated rhythmic sensibilities are redefining the instrument and earning the attention of musicians from all over the world. Based in Oregon\, he tours with Grammy-nominated Kittel and Co.\, the Bee Eaters\, and Wes Corbett. \nOne of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch\,” Nic Gareiss (he/they) has been hailed by the New York Times for his “dexterous melding of Irish and Appalachian dance” and called “the most inventive and expressive step dancer on the scene” by the Boston Herald. Informed by 25 years of ethnographic study and performance\, Gareiss’ work draws from many percussive dance practices to weave together a technique facilitating his love of improvisation; clog\, flatfoot\, and step dance vocabulary; and musical collaboration. In this way Gareiss reimagines movement as a musical practice\, recasting percussive dance as a medium that queers the boundaries between sight\, sound\, and touch.

SUMMARY:Lizzie No
DESCRIPTION:New York singer-songwriter\, harpist and guitarist Lizzie No is one of the most exciting new voices in contemporary indie folk music. Her 2017 debut album\, “Hard Won\,” was hailed as “simultaneously understated and fervent” by Billboard magazine. No’s 2019 album\, “Vanity”\, was a hit at college radio stations across the country\, cracking the NACC Top Adds Chart. Rolling Stone called the first single\, “Narcissus\,” a “crisp alt-rock gem” and a Song You Need To Know. Since then she’s released a sophomore album and a surprise home-studio-made EP\, and she’s  bringing a bold new album\, “Halfsies\,” to The Ark. She’s a guest co-host of the Basic Folk podcast team\, and she’s toured with Iron & Wine\, Adia Victoria\, Ron Pope\, Sarah Shook and The Disarmers\, and she’s been  showcased at festivals like Newport\, Americanafest\, South by Southwest\, and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. SUMMARY:Darlingside
DESCRIPTION:Comprised of Don Mitchell\, Auyon Mukharji\, Harris Paseltiner and David Senft\, four likeminded multi-instrumentalists who first met at Williams College in 2009\, Darlingside’s career has been defined by the elegance of their compositions and the unity of their four voices. Their talent for harmony and melodic world-building is part of what garnered praise from outlets like NPR\, Rolling Stone and The New Yorker\, and what has created demand worldwide for their extraordinary live performances. Becoming beautifully unindividualized has\, in other words\, worked very well for Darlingside in the past. With a vigor and discipline more common to graduate-level writing workshops than to indie rock\, Darlingside has\, over the years\, experimented with all manners of idiosyncratic methods for elevating and upholding a truly democratic process of songwriting—processes that include multiple rounds of group writing and recording exercises—all with the aim of escaping the trap that bands with multiple songwriters often fall into: ego-driven infighting and artistic incoherence. \nIt’s a rare thing and becoming rarer by the day: a group of musicians with that emulsifying magic to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. And to see Darlingside perform live is to confirm this special chemistry. With the release of Everything Is Alive (2023) the band will\, for the first time\, take to the road without Dave Senft. Instead of filling his spot directly\, the band has wisely chosen to honor the special chemistry of the foursome by letting those arrangements live on the recordings without obligation to faithfully recreate them onstage. While Dave remains a contributing member of the band\, on tour Darlingside will perform in a completely different configuration altogether—a configuration that will\, at times\, include the album’s drummer Ben Burns\, singer Molly Parden\, and others—proving again how the group can adroitly rearrange themselves for the breaking of a new and different day.
