SUMMARY:An Evening With Alejandro Escovedo
DESCRIPTION:POSTPONED! \nDue to illness\, Alejandro Escovedo has had to postpone this leg of his tour. We are working on rescheduling this show to another date. Tickets will be valid for the new date. \nAlejandro Escovedo’s New Album ECHO DANCING is an Adventure in Life. No one has really ever been able to define themselves and their music like singer-songwriter Alejandro Escovedo does. His life in music of all kinds sometimes feels like a swirl through the sky\, where his songs point out all the majesty and mystery of how he sees the world. The sounds he makes take him places that he might not even predict\, but once there\, greatness always follows. \nEcho Dancing is an experiment in how to use the past to shape the future. By recording completely new and repurposed versions of songs from his past\, Escovedo actually gets a chance to rewrite his own history. It’s also an idea that pushes growth into the present\, and asks an artist to see themselves anew.  \n“I always feel that a well-written song can withstand a lot of abuse\,” Escovedo says. It is an area of creativity that the man has always honored. “Turning a past song inside out leads to discovery of new ideas you might not have understood about the song\,” he says. “Even lyrical refurbishing has proven helpful and effective. It’s like interpreting your own work anew. The songs never seem to be complete. They are always evolving.” \nEcho Dancing makes sure Alejandro Escovedo’s evolving circle remains unbroken.

Their album was an astonishing success in stores and on radio resulting in a national tour of sold-out concerts\, as well as a national sold-out reunion tour in 2018.  \nLucy’s new album\, The Lucy Story\, is a retrospective/history of her musical life.

SUMMARY:Mr. B's 28th Annual Blues and Boogie Piano Celebration
DESCRIPTION:This show is being postponed to August 23. Original tickets will be valid for the new date. If unable to attend the August date\, ticket holders have until April 7th to request a refund. \nOnce a year\, Mark “Mr. B” Braun\, Ann Arbor’s own wizard of blues and boogie piano music\, comes together with other top piano players from around southeastern Michigan and beyond. Call it a piano summit\, or perhaps a meeting of the minds! Audiences in southeastern Michigan tend to think of Mr. B as a local hero\, but in fact he’s well known among fans and practitioners of blues and jazz piano music all over the country and around the world. In the past\, Mr. B’s Piano Celebration concerts have brought great sets by otherwise hard-to-find performers from New Orleans\, New York\, and Europe\, and they’re by no means confined to boogie and blues. \nNote early start time!

SUMMARY:Cris Jacobs
DESCRIPTION:Due to a building issue\, tonight’s Cris Jacobs show has been canceled. We’re working on a rescheduled date\, and will notify ticket buyers once one has been confirmed. Hold on to your tickets – they will be good for the new date! \nFrom Baltimore comes Cris Jacobs—an unexpectedly gritty soul-blues singer and guitarist with outlaw country ethos. Blending a variety of musical traditions\, Jacobs creates a distinctive voice and sound of his own punctuated by emotive songwriting and explosive guitar playing. Equally at home playing heartfelt Americana ballads or funky blues rockers\, Jacobs is known for his mesmerizing live shows\, where his improvisational guitar playing\, powerhouse band\, and deep reservoir of songs make each night a unique experience. \nNamed one of Rolling Stone’s “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know” in 2017\, Jacobs has collaborated with the Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh and Dumpstaphunk’s Ivan Neville\, and earned opening slots on tours with Sturgill Simpson and Steve Winwood. \nWith three solo albums to his name\, a collaborative record with Ivan Neville aptly titled “Neville Jacobs”\, songwriting credits that include bluegrass artists Audie Blaylock and Frank Solivan\, New Orleans funksters Dumpstaphunk\, and gospel legends Blind Boys of Alabama\, Jacobs continues to evolve and display his wide range of writing and performing prowess. “No matter the song”\, he says\, “I just like to keep it soulful and let the music speak for itself”

SUMMARY:Yasmin Williams
DESCRIPTION:Yasmin Williams’ performance at The Ark in Ann Arbor\, originally scheduled for Saturday\, October 26\, has been rescheduled to Friday\, January 31\, 2025. All tickets purchased for the October show will be honored for the new date. If you can’t make it to the new date\, please contact the original point of purchase for a refund by November 18th. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. Yasmin looks forward to sharing an incredible night of music with you in January! Thank you for your support!  \nBased in Alexandria\, VA\, Yasmin Williams is an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist and film composer. She has an unorthodox\, modern style of guitar playing and utilizes various techniques including alternate tunings\, percussive hits\, and lap tapping in her music to great effect. Her “radiant sound and adventitious origins have made her a key figure in a diverse dawn for the solo guitar” (The New York Times). Williams’s music has been described as rich\, harmonious\, and “in a lot of ways\, the joy and possibility she brings to the guitar reminds me more of Eddie Van Halen than any of the other fingerstyle guitarists to whom she’s compared” (NPR Music). \nHer latest album\, Urban Driftwood\, has received critical acclaim from numerous major publications including The New York Times\, Pitchfork\, Rolling Stone\, The Washington Post\, NPR Music\, The Fader\, Wallstreet Journal\, AllMusic\, Paste Magazine\, No Depression\, and several other outlets. She was listed as one of the “25 New and Rising Artists Shaping the Future of Music in 2023” by Pitchfork. Most recently\, Williams signed to Nonesuch Records and released a new single\, titled Dawning\, featuring Aoife O’Donovan on vocals\, Kafari on rhythm bones\, and Nic Gareiss on flat foot percussion. \nLocal trio\, Brawny Lad\, opens.

DESCRIPTION:This performance has been rescheduled to 5/2/25 at 8:00pm. Previously purchased tickets will be honored on the new date. If ticket buyers are unable to attend on the rescheduled date\, a refund may be requested from the original point of purchase until 8/12/24. \nPeter Yarrow co-wrote “Puff\, the Magic Dragon\,” and by any measure he’s one of America’s most beloved folk singers. With Peter\, Paul & Mary in the 1960s and beyond\, he was part of a group that changed the world of music. He’s been active in changing the wider world as well\, and he has never slowed down since the birth of Peter\, Paul & Mary during the Kennedy administration. In 1969 he was one of the organizers of the antiwar March on Washington. In support of the rights of Jews in the former Soviet Union he wrote the anthem “Don’t Let the Light Go Out.” In 2000 he founded Operation Respect\, a set of school and camp curricula designed to promote a culture of tolerance and respect. Peter’s recent appearances have emphasized music as a shared message and an antidote to mean-spiritedness and intolerance.

SUMMARY:Chris Knight
DESCRIPTION:Tonight’s performance has been postponed due to weather conditions. Please retain your tickets and they will be honored on the new date. Once the date is announced\, patrons will have 30 days to request a refund if they are not able to attend the new date. \nPlease review The Ark’s current COVID-related information before attending a show.\nCOVID-19 FAQ \n“It’s hard to know how people are gonna react\,” Chris Knight says of “Almost Daylight\,” his ninth album and first new recording in over seven years. “I’ve written songs about a lot of different things going all the way back to my first record\, and some folks still think ‘somebody kills somebody’ is all I write about. Maybe that’s why I was bound and determined to get these particular songs on this album. If people like them\, then we’ll be fine. But I wasn’t gonna do it any other way.” For the past 20 years\, Chris Knight has only made music his own way. He’s released eight acclaimed albums\, played thousands of electrifying live shows and built generations of fervent fans from Texas honky-tonks to Manhattan rock clubs. He’s been hailed as “the last of a dying breed…a taciturn loner with an acoustic guitar and a college degree” (The New York Times) and “a storyteller in the best traditions of Mellencamp and Springsteen” (USA Today). Bottom line\, he’s hard-earned his reputation as one of America’s most uncompromising and respected singer/songwriters. And now with “Almost Daylight\,” Knight delivers the most powerful – and unexpected – music of his career.
