Born in Flint and a true Michigan institution, Mr. B (Mark Braun) is a rare living link to the early days of boogie woogie, having learned directly from legends like Little Brother Montgomery and Blind John Davis. He plays in concert halls, he plays outdoors, he’s even played on a piano being paddled out to Mackinac Island, but wherever you heard him, it’s an exciting show.
Mr. B will be joined onstage by the young Carnez Wright, one of the region’s most revered gospel pianists and organists, and, a special guest, one of the most acclaimed stride pianists alive today, who will be travelling a long distance to surprise the audience on this special 25th anniversary. Pete Siers, drums, and Paul Keller, string bass, will appear at some of the anniversary concerts.
Over these 25 years, BBPC has welcomed more than 50 of the world’s finest pianists to southeast Michigan’s concert halls, schools, libraries, and museums, reaching some 10,000 fans. “The last two years of the pandemic have been especially difficult for performing artists,” said Mr. B. “As such, we are proceeding this year with unparalleled enthusiasm.”
You may think every town has a Mr. B, but you would be very, very wrong!
