Kanekoa will also play a couple songs and will also answer questions. Then join us at 8:00 for Kanekoa’s free performance!
Kanekoa is one of Hawaii’s premier live music experiences. Playing what is described as ‘ukulele-powered Hawaiian jam-rock,” their sound is based on the limitless potential of the electrified Hawaiian ‘ukulele. Kanekoa is riding the wave of renewed interest in the instrument most closely associated with Hawai‘i, guided by its culture and rooted in its land. Soulful singer/rhythm ‘ukulele player Kaulana Kanekoa, ‘ukulele phenom Vince Esquire, and Uncle Don Lopez, exceptional on the U-Bass, are joined by percussionist Lopaka Colon (who also plays with Mick Fleetwood’s Island Rumours Band). Recently Kanekoa has graced the cover of Ukulele Magazine as “Hawaiian Trailblazers.” (Fall 2022)
Pushing the envelope of this 4-string instrument in a jam band with eclectic roots and a sound that embraces flavors of reggae, blues, funk, jazz and island music, the band continues to surprise and delight audiences and elicits high praise from fellow musicians, critics, and fans. Their most recent CD was produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos who raved: “Kanekoa is one of those special bands where years…of hard work give them the license to create seemingly effortless beauty.”
