The Ark takes pride in its reputation for consistently great-sounding performances. We achieve these results with a largely volunteer sound production crew.
You are here
If you have completed The Ark’s advanced sound course, or have extensive live sound mixing experience, (and are 18 years or older) you are eligible to volunteer as a sound tech at Ark performances. We use a JBL sound system compliments of Harman International. You should possess a good sense of pitch and an ability to hear the distinct timbres of different singers and instruments.
Tech volunteers arrive at an arranged time to meet the artist and load in the artists' equipment, help set-up the stage, run sound and are expected to stay until the end of the show for stage breakdown and performer equipment packing. Punctuality and a commitment to the entire performance are necessary.
To become an Ark sound tech volunteer, you must be able to commit to at least 3 shows a month, however, to really learn your way around the club, we recommend making yourself available much more in the beginning. There is no dress code for volunteers. Jeans and T-shirts are acceptable.
Please fill out this tech application form. You will then be invited to the next tech information session. These are scheduled about 4 times per year. If you are still interested in volunteering after learning more about the volunteer commitment and the type of expertise we require, we will start scheduling you at the club.
