Jeremy Kittel Band

  • Doors Open: 7:00 pm
  • Show Starts: 7:30 pm
  • Ticket Price: $20
  • Genre: Chamber folk

Inhabiting the space between classical and acoustic roots, Celtic and bluegrass aesthetics, folk and jazz sensibilities

Description

Previously of the Grammy-winning Turtle Island Quartet, Kittel has been a composer-arranger-collaborator for such diverse artists as My Morning Jacket, Yo-Yo Ma & the Silk Road Ensemble, and Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn. He blazes through a Bach violin partita as easily as a Scottish reel, bringing the same intense focus and precision to both. For the last few years the Saline native, now based in Brooklyn, has been diligently building his own repertoire of music for a wholly original new group.

Jeremy Kittel Band includes mandolin phenom Josh Pinkham (named “the future of the mandolin” by Mandolin Magazine), genre-bending guitarist Quinn Bachand (a presidential scholar at Berklee College of Music), transcendent cellist Nathaniel Smith (as heard with Sarah Jarosz and Kacey Musgraves), and hammer-dulcimer wizard Simon Chrisman (acclaimed for bringing a new tonal flexibility to the instrument).

Sunday’s set will mark the band’s first appearance at The Ark as a full quintet, on the cusp of their highly anticipated album release.

“…Powerful band of cutting edge string players. It's a rare group that can go from zero to sixty in a spilt second while also weaving such subtle textures into his compositions. They draw you in and then blow you away.”

Tim O’Brien

“...We were totally mesmerized by their set. Definitely one of our favorite acts we've been able to see on the road … we’d jump at the opportunity to share the stage with them again.”
