"Coming Home" to bluegrass and country
Fiddler Mark O'Connor's music has encompassed jazz, folk, and classical music, but he started out in country and bluegrass, and he's returned to that music with a new album, "Coming Home." It's a family affair: The O'Connor Band puts on an engaging, dynamic show featuring compelling arrangements, virtuosic solos, and tight vocal harmonies, and the band introduces Mark's family members and some other crack musicians. The O'Connor Band is Maggie O'Connor (Mark's wife) on fiddle, son Forrest O'Connor on mandolin and vocals, Kate Lee on fiddle and vocals, National Flatpick Guitar Champion Joe Smart, and double bassist/old-time banjoist Geoff Saunders. Their music includes elements of country, progressive bluegrass, acoustic pop, indie folk, and Americana—and all the polish and brilliance we've come to expect from one of America's great acoustic musicians.
