Literate, dreamy, spiritual folk-rock

Description

Named for a tough but enduringly creative neighborhood north of downtown Cincinnati, Over the Rhine is the duo of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist. Their ethereal sounds—dreamy, sweeping, highly literate and melancholy—have drawn comparisons to the likes of Cowboy Junkies. Says Leslie Benson of the Dayton City Paper: "The music of Cincinnati-based folk/roots band Over the Rhine seeps into you with a rich hunger—each note a separate, glimmering cloud-diamond." USA Today made note of the group’s “mature, graceful and sad songs (and) intimate, soulful arrangements,” which “showcase Bergquist’s achingly beautiful voice,” and Newsday described the music as “aggressively beautiful, like those ’60s protesters who confronted soldiers with flowers.”And someone once described OTR"s music as a mash-up of spirituality, whimsy and sensuality ("thank you, thank you, thank you," they say). Over the Rhine returns to The Ark after a beautiful set at the 2017 Ann Arbor Folk Festival.
