"Wit and smart wordplay ... a raw, expressive voice"
Darrin James is a local singer-songwriter and guitarist who spent a decade in the New York music scene before returning to Michigan 5 years ago. He celebrates the release of "Strange Storm," his 3rd full length CD, a concept album which explores themes of today's "climate" of constant violence, blatant greed, religious hypocrisy and political chaos. The title, "Strange Storm," takes on new meanings as his music journeys through eclectic sonic landscapes and diverse influences from Woody Guthrie inspired folk, to Afro-funk, blues, and rock n' roll. For this show, James has a full band, complete with a horn section of local musicians: Ross Huff (Macpodz), Dan Bennett (Nomo, Colin Stetson) Tim Haldeman, and a special appearance by Detroit's "Queen of the Blues," Thornetta Davis, who is featured on the album.
