John Sebastian & Roger McGuinn

The Ark presents John Sebastian and Roger McGuinn at the Michigan Theater

Legends of folk rock, together in concert

It's a once-in-a-lifetime folk-rock revival at the Michigan Theater! Roger McGuinn was the nucleus of a group of musicians that blended folk and rock in 1964, forming the Byrds and creating a sound that changed American popular music. McGuinn had a consistently fresh and successful solo career after the Byrds disbanded, and lately he's returned to his roots as an acoustic folk singer-songwriter. John Sebastian was the lead singer and songwriter of the Lovin' Spoonful. He drew on blues, country, folk, and jug band sounds to create a new American roots mixture and a string of songs you know by heart: "Do You Believe In Magic?," "Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind?," "Summer In The City," "Nashville Cats." Sebastian, too, has continued to perform and make new music, and he's the author of a great children's book, JB's Harmonica. Roger McGuinn and John Sebastian will each perform a solo set, and they will also perform together.

Tickets are $75, $39.50, and $25 and are available at the Michigan Union Ticket Office and all Ticketmaster outlets. Charge by phone at 734-763-8587. Online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Two opportunities to prepare for the Friday August 8 concert by 60's icons John Sebastian and Roger McGuinn:

1. Popular radio morning show host Martin Bandyke will air an interview with Roger McGuinn on his wonderful Fine Tuning program on 107one FM this Sunday, August 3 at 4:00 pm.

2. Later in the week, highly regarded music journalist James Leonard will deliver a talk entitled "America Fights Back: the Byrds, the Spoonful and the End of English Domination," at the downtown branch of the Ann Arbor District Library on Wednesday, August 6 at 7:00 pm. The talk will include insights he gained while interviewing both Sebastian and McGuinn for a piece in this month's Ann Arbor Observer.
