"The natural successor to Lucinda Williams"Uncut

The songs of Gretchen Peters are all over country radio and beyond, in renditions by Martina McBride ("Independence Day"), Faith Hill ("The Secret of Life"), Pam Tillis, Trisha Yearwood, Patty Loveless, Neil Diamond, George Strait, Etta James, and more. Gretchen has released eight solo albums since the late 1990s, and by now she's a legend of Nashville songwriting, perhaps the single artist best equipped to address serious themes within the mold of the big country-pop anthem. Many of her songs are detailed portraits of ordinary individuals in the throes of intense psychological change and realization. We last saw Gretchen at The Ark as part of a duo with Tom Russell, performing their incredible joint release "One to the Heart, One to the Head." Now we're proud to welcome her back with her latest, "Hello Cruel World," which NPR has called the album of her career. The Financial Times raves: "The music has the sweet ache of 1970s Tom Waits while the lyrics pack an extraordinary amount of story-telling into five minutes."
