"A lively stroll through the enchanted forest"—eMusic.com
Michigan's Breathe Owl Breathe is a trio with roots in indie, classical, and traditional music. They play original songs that combine vocals, guitar, percussion, and classical-style cello from Colombian-born, Ann Arbor-educated Andrea Moreno-Beals. Breathe Owl Breathe's songs have a kind of economy that makes them timeless-seeming yet disarmingly fresh. It's a totally new sound, floating between post-rock and folk, and it's been winning Breathe Owl Breathe well beyond Michigan. With roots in the northwest lower Michigan town of East Jordan, Breathe Owl Breathe has an entrancing sound that's completely their own. "At last, some music in the folk tradition that is new and refreshing, something an old music critic like me is always looking to find," says All Music Guide founder Michael Erlewine. Opening is songwriter Jim Roll, an unheralded linchpin of Ann Arbor's roots scene.
