New frontiers in American traditional music
Fiddler Mark O'Connor started out as a Nashville session musician, moving through progressive bluegrass, old-time sounds, and classical music to create a unique style that's an apotheosis of American traditional music. At this show, Mark O'Connor will perform traditional songs and original compositions from his latest release, "American Classics," as well as some of his best-known solo pieces—great folk songs, fiddle tunes, and classic themes culled from 400 years of traditional American violin and fiddle playing. The performance pulls from all regions of North America and diverse musical styles including folk, jazz, ragtime, blues, Texas fiddle, and American classical. Mark will be accompanied by pianist Melissa Tong, and America's premier fiddling showband, Washtenaw County's own Saline Fiddlers, will also perform!
