"Living legends of New Orleans music!"
Tonight's double bill would be hard to duplicate even in the Crescent City itself! With his breakthrough 1968 album "Gris-Gris," Dr. John established his unique blend of voodoo mysticism, funk, rhythm & blues, psychedelic rock, and New Orleans Creole roots. He's been tearing up stages ever since with a show that's equal parts wild and tight, and he's been a leader in trying to put the pieces of musical New Orleans back together in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He's joined tonight by the Neville Brothers, who live up to their billing as New Orleans's First Family of Funk. The sweet voice of lead vocalist Aaron Neville is an American musical icon by now, and the brothers have become famous both individually and together. Brother Art Neville is the leader of the incomparable Funky Meters, and the family affair also includes Charles Neville on saxophones and Cyril Neville on percussion. It's a New Orleans musical summit -- just the thing for the stretch of the year when winter is getting really old in Michigan!
