"The "Walking in Memphis" man returns"
When Cleveland native Marc Cohn released a luminous piece of pure pop songcraft called "Walking in Memphis" in 1991, he earned a Best New Artist Grammy and a permanent place in American musical consciousness. The husband of ABC News journalist Elizabeth Vargas, Marc Cohn is a resonant baritone singer and an introspective lyricist who makes every word count. His latest album, "Join the Parade," embodies his responses to a pair of disasters -- Hurricane Katrina, and an incident in Denver in which he was shot in the head by a carjacker. "I've just had my own crisis and now I'm watching all these other people suffering [an] even greater crisis on television," he told Billboard. "And then something strange happened. It was like my songwriting receiver got flipped into the on position."
