"Enduring and distinctive icons of alternative country rock
"
Rooted in country and blues styles, the world-famous alternative rock of Cowboy Junkies sounds just like what the name suggests: you can identify the band that's playing their languid, darkly seductive music after hearing just a few notes. Cowboy Junkies are 20 years old and going strong, and they've recently released a new album: "Trinity Revisited." On the album, the band returns to Toronto's Trinity Church, the site of their 1988 breakthrough, "The Trinity Session," and offers new versions of the same songs. In the words of Mark Deming of the All Music Guide, the new arrangements "never sound rote, and the easy but troubling narcotic flow of this music remains as hypnotic as ever." The Cowboy Junkies spinoff band Lee Harvey Osmond opens the show.
