"'Irish Female Vocalist of the Decade'--Irish American News"
Detroit native Cathie Ryan, the daughter of Irish immigrants, was a member of Cherish the Ladies for seven years and has taken Irish-American music by storm since embarking on a solo career. Says U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins: "There is a powerful sweetness in Cathie Ryan's voice, as well as a Celtic intensity that can be felt in all the songs she writes and sings--songs of place, songs of memory, poignant songs of the heart." She was a fixture at the Gaelic League in Corktown when she was young, and she's spent her life immersed in Irish tradition. Cathie has performed on public television in the United States and Europe, and has appeared on NPR's "Mountain Stage" and "Thistle and Shamrock," PRI's "The World," BBC2 in England, Radio Scotland, and RTE, RnG, and TG4 in Ireland. She comes to The Ark with a new album, "The Farthest Wave."
