"Revenge of the nerd"
Brooklynite Jonathan Coulton is a geek with a vision. Recently he left his programming job to write songs. He launched a podcast, "Thing a Week," resulting in 52 consistently well-written tunes that turned him into an Internet sensation. They cover digital-age topics and feelings not often heard in musical form. Jonathan's office zombie song "Re: Your Brains" made the Dr. Demento Funny 25 countdown for 2006. But beneath the geeky comedy beats a real heart. "On a deeper level, thereʼs a thread running through my songs about how it feels to be a nerd," Jonathan says. Also appearing is the D.C. duo of Paul and Storm, whose sets blend geek-oriented comedy with music. Paul and Storm, said the Washington Post, "attacked with both high and low humor. There were scatological laughs aplenty . . . but a lot of the fun sprang from the duoʼs energetic, quick-witted harmony vocals."
