"Fresh Tennessee sounds"
The Everybodyfields of Johnson City, TN, are fronted by the wildly different voices and diverse instrumental talents of Sam Quinn and Jill Andrews. Citing their influences as country, rock 'n' roll, and folk, they offer melancholic interpretations of universal human stories, set to gorgeous melodies. With a bit of the Band in their groove and the sparseness of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings in their sound, they're a growing force in Southern alt-country. Colorado-to-Nashville transplant Katie Herzig fronted a band called Newcomers Home for eight years and then broke out with her solo "Weightless," featured on NPR and on the TV series "Grey's Anatomy." Her song "Heaven's My Home" got the Duhks a Grammy nomination, and lately she's been writing with Nashville songstress Kim Richey. Her music has something of Richey's mixture of seriousness and irresistible pop craft, and she has a fine new album, "Apple Tree."
