"'Sly Stone soul and Gram Parsons heartbreak.'--John Rockwood, Blue Suit Records"
Chicago's JT and The Clouds play Americana music in a sense as broad as the term deserves, with anything from boogie piano to Memphis soul to country swing to roadhouse rock and roll likely to show up in their music. Frazey Ford of the Be Good Tanyas calls frontman JT "a great, young songwriting phenomenon carrying on the folk and soul tradition." JT and the Clouds think of the music they play as soul music, although their definition of "soul" might be a little broader than most music programmers'. If you asked one of them for a good example of a great soul band, you'd be as likely to hear the Stanley Brothers mentioned as you would the Talking Heads, the Band, or the Family Stone. The band is tight; the lyrics are catchy and memorable; the phenomenon is growing!
