"'A riveting, mesmerizing, crazy, amazing machine of music'--Chronogram"
This Sleepy Hollow, New York quintet plays music that harks back to the idealistic, catchy folk rock of the 1960s and 1970s. But they're not a nostalgia act. "Instead of rehashing the old stuff, we went back to the well," says lead singer Joziah Longo. One fan is Reinhard Holstein of Germany's Glitterhouse label, who says, "If somebody forced me to describe the Gandalf sound I would say: It's as if David Bowie recorded 'Hunky Dory' with the Band in the basement of Big Pink." The band has just released its long-awaited new album, "The Great Unravel," a masterpiece of joyous warmth. This great young band, like no other, takes you into a land of fantasy and imagination, so we just had to line them up for our Hillbilly Pirate Ball! Come in appropriate regalia--they'll be fine with that! After all, this is the band that once cooked turquoise-colored pancakes for an audience of hundreds. Proceeds from the evening will benefit The Ark, helping us continue to present the best folk and roots music to be heard anywhere in them thar hills or on the seven seas, 300 nights a year.
