"An ethereal new presence on the L.A. scene"
Priscilla Ahn grew up mostly in rural Pennsylvania. She took up songwriting, she says, "to express my teenage anguish in something other than ice sculpting, my prior hobby and artform." Soon she was making long drives to Philadelphia to appear at open mic nights, and after finishing high school she headed for L.A. She "stumbled in and out of apartments; getting kicked out of one, getting freaked out by others," but people began to notice the striking young woman with the angelic voice and the diverse array of instruments (including kazoo) with which she accompanied herself. Ahn landed a backup-vocal slot with Amos Lee and then an opening-act tour with Joshua Radin. Signed to the Blue Note label, she has just released her debut album, "A Good Day." Ahn has some of the charm of the young Joni Mitchell, but her dreamlike vocals come from nowhere else but deep within her own soul.
