"Daring newcomers from the Bay State"
Rolling Stone named Boston indie-rock trio The Slip its New Artist to Watch in January of 2007, and they've since gone on to performances at Bonnaroo and other hot national venues. This band has experimented with jam-band, avant-garde, and Americana sounds, and their song "Even Rats" was featured in the PlayStation 2 video game "Guitar Hero." At the age of 19, jazz-influenced Massachusetts singer-songwriter Sonya Kitchell has already toured with Joe Jackson and Herbie Hancock, made the rounds in Europe, and released two albums and an EP. Sonya told Teen Vogue that her youth has helped make her music universally appealing. "Teenagers feel things so intensely," she said. "People forget what it was like when they're past that point." She's looking to the future, though: "I hope to create music that has as much of an effect on others as artists like Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, Janis Joplin, and Leonard Cohen had on me," she says.
Brad Barr will open this evening's show.
