"'The poet laureate of the Buddhist cowboys'--Rolling Stone"
Jimmie Dale Gilmore is an American music icon, a singer whose high-lonesome voice mirrors the desolate beauty of his native West Texas panhandle, a creator of unforgettable images, and a poetic interpreter of his own songs and those of others. He first gained critical notice as a member of the legendary Flatlanders, with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock. Songs like "Dallas" ("a rich man with a death wish in his eye") have won him two Grammy nominations and three Rolling Stone Critics' Awards. “I never fell into any of the categories … I just love what I love and I’ve never discarded anything I loved in favor of something new," Jimmie says. But if you have to put a label on him, call him a cosmic cowboy--after you hear Jimmie Dale Gilmore, the universe seems just a little bit bigger.
Bukka Allen will open this evening's show.
