"Ferocious new traditions from Scotland"
Bodega is a young five-piece band drawn from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. All are multi-instrumentalists, and the instrumentarium includes Gaelic harp and djembe. They met at the ferocious hothouse of youthful talent that calls itself the National Centre of Traditional Music. Their music has a kind of fierce energy, imagination, and joie de vivre that you just donʼt hear very often. They sing in Gaelic and English. Theyʼre funky, yet respectful of traditions. They improvise. What donʼt they do? They donʼt do dull and predictable. Bodega won BBC Radio 2's Young Folk Band award for 2005-06, and they've arranged to stop off at The Ark in the middle of a North American tour that includes the Chicago Celtic Festival and the Milwaukee Irish Festival.
