Detroit's Global Jazz Trio is usually found holding forth in legendary jazz clubs like Bert's, so we're glad to get the chance to hear them out in Washtenaw County. The Metro Times has praised their "wonderful high-energy contemporary funk and traditional jazz with a global interpretation." Saxophonist Mark Hershberger, percussionist Muruga Booker, and bassist Richard Smith have all apprenticed and played with a host of Detroit and national jazz innovators, and they make visionary music that links Detroit's great jazz tradition to the music of the whole planet. The groupʼs message through music is, they say, in favor of love, hope, and peace in all countries, cities, towns, and villages around the globe.
