"The First Family of Celtic Canada"
The six MacNeil siblings of Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia are widely regarded as one of the greatest live acts in the Celtic world. Deeply rooted in the Celtic music, culture, and history that run deep in eastern Nova Scotia (it means New Scotland), their critically acclaimed recordings have included original songs as well as tried-and-true standards, both instrumental and vocal. A Barra MacNeils concert brings multiple lead vocalists, beautiful sibling harmonies, top-drawer instrumental prowess on a wide variety of acoustic, stringed, percussion, and wind instruments, dancing, storytelling, Gaelic songs, and an enchanting journey through an ancient culture. The year 2008 marks the beginning of the third decade in the recording and touring career of the Barra MacNeils, and at the show you can pick up a special 20th Anniversary CD and continue exploring the music of this mainstay of Maritime Canada's Celtic scene.
