"'Sweet, I might be able to come to that' --Timothy Monger, Great Lakes Mythe Society"
Tonight's show features a couple of southeast Michigan songwriters who stand out from the crowd. Chris Buhalis was born and raised on Detroit's east side, but his songs come from places you can only find if you stick out your thumb. Covering territory from the barrooms of Alaska to the auto plants of Detroit, Buhalis writes songs that speak of real people in real situations, and with the "Talkin' Sounds Just Like Joe McCarthy Blues" he came up with the first great protest song of the 21st century. Dave Boutette's Midwest, he says, is full of passion, humor, and a certain shaky grace. Influenced by songwriters from Chuck Berry to John Prine to Elvis Costello, he documents the tfravels and triumphs of life in the heartland. Boutette peppers his performances with great stories of life on the road.
