"The Ark Open Stage cream of the crop!"
Every year, the organizers of the Ark's monthly Open Stage invite two of the previous year's fearless performers back for a showcase of their own. This year brings a pair of songwriters with contrasting styles. Local singer-songwriter Jim Smith has been writing songs since the 1970's. The Third Place winner in the 2007 Great Lakes Songwriting Contest, he writes reflective, often historical songs about ordinary people's lives. You'll hear similarities to Gordon Lightfoot and John McCutcheon in his performance. Charlene Kay is a powerhouse of talent who plays both guitar and piano. Her songs are full of toe-tapping fun, swinging, moving, entertaining, energetic, sensitive, and often full of toe-tapping fun. Influenced by soul, classical, swing, pop, and rock, she just about delivers five concerts in one. See her now before she takes off nationally!
