"'As vibrant and purposeful as ever'--Guitar Player"
Ever since he was playing with Bob Dylan in Greenwich Village and opening the festivities at Woodstock, a concert by Richie Havens has been a powerful, positive experience in tune with all kinds of good vibrations. Havens recently reunited with Dylan, in a way, by making an appearance in the "I'm Not There" Dylan biopic. His unique pre-punk guitar strumming is something you can recognize from a mile away. Havens's "Grace of the Sun" album features versions of "Woodstock" and "All Along the Watchtower," and his message of hope has rarely seemed more relevant to world affairs. "Beaded, balding, and bearded, Havens beams out from the disc's back cover like a man steeped in ginseng and brotherly love, the very embodiment of the messages in his songs," says England's Guardian newspaper.
