"The wild man of Southern soul"
Paul Thorn is the modern wild man of Southern soul music. He's had quite a life! He skydives. He got into the ring with Roberto "Hands of Steel" Duran on national television. He's the son of a Pentecostal preacher who rode the tent-revival circuit. He paints. He records for the Perpetual Obscurity label of Sulligent, Alabama. He had his first singing gig at age three. He comes from Tupelo, Mississippi and absorbed the power of black gospel music just like another famous native of that town. And he ties it all together in his original songs, masterpieces of gutbucket rhythm and blues with a fearless confessional streak. Thom Jurek of the All Music Guide calls Paul Thorn "a soul singer who can slip down into the murk and mess of human emotions with style and aplomb." Paul comes to town with a brand-new album, "A Long Way from Tupelo."
