"A true blues original"
"Dangerous" and "unnerving" aren't words often applied to the blues these days, but Otis Taylor has attracted both adjectives. He taps into the chilling dark side of traditional blues and accompanies his ambitious lyrics with minimal, hypnotic drones unbroken by drums. He whispers, he wails, he shouts, he conjures haunted blues landscapes with a guitar, a banjo, and a harmonica. Says the Philadelphia Daily News of this former bicycle racer and antique dealer: "Otis Taylor is to acoustic blues what Tom Waits is to jazz: a howling, theatrically 'crazed' character actor who's heard it all and is beholden to none." You might call his music something new--trance blues--or you might say Otis Taylor comes closer to the roots of the blues than any other modern musician.
