"Cathartic, intimate, modern folk"
Ellis is a rising star on the folk music circuit. In the last three years, she has won several songwriting awards, was named "Best Musician" in Minneapolis five years in a row, and she recently was nominated by college students as "Best Female Performer". She is one of the headliners of the 2008 National Women's Music Festival and she's opened for artists such as Patty Larkin, Richard Shindell, Cheryl Wheeler, and Todd Snider.
A transplant from Texas to Minnesota, Ellis is known for her vibrant and open-hearted nature and contagious sense of humor. Her music is described as joyful, unpretentious modern folk with a slight hint of country inspired by her southern roots.
She is currently touring in support of her sxith and latest CD release, Break The Spell. This album will be featured in the May/June issue of Performing Songwriter Magazine as a "Top 12 DIY Pick", and it has been described as a "cathartic, intimate, and ultimately transcendent modern folk record" (City Pages).
Special Guest: Anne Heaton
New england based singer-songwriter Anne Heaton will be opening the show and will join Ellis on stage as well! Anne maps personal themes with organic vocals, pop melodies and piano-led arrangements. Her music has been called "lush, sweet, funny and sorrowful" (Performing Songwriter) and her new album "blazing red" will be released in the fall.
