"'I love him.'--Taj Mahal"
Eric Bibb draws on the legacy of the acoustic blues to create something wholly new. Bibb has the stylistic range of Taj Mahal, the contemporary songwriter's sensibility of Keb' Mo', and the sheer fingerpicking skills of John Hammond, all rolled into one. Bibb's roots in the African American tradition run deep: he is the son of 1960s folk singer Leon Bibb, the nephew of Modern Jazz Quartet pianist John Lewis, and the godson of theatrical legend Paul Robeson. And since he's lived much of his life in Europe (another old tradition among talented black musicians), he's comparatively underappreciated stateside. Since he was last at The Ark he's toured with Odetta and released a wonderful new album, "Diamond Days." A performance by Eric Bibb is an enriching experience, both musically and spiritually. He's quiet, he's wise. See him while you can.
