"Folk music's great poet-comedienne"
Cheryl Wheeler a woman of many musical personalities--heart-wrenching romantic balladeer, marvelous observational humorist, poet of ordinary New England scenes and people, activist social critic, irascible grump. Cheryl's songs are often emotional portraits of people, leaving you with the impression that you know the characters. You find yourself being dragged into the song rather than standing outside and observing. Her funny songs are gems, and you have to see her in person to hear most of them. She says her concerts are more like typical comedy club shows than a lot of folk concerts. Pop, folk, and country artists pick and choose from among the riches of Wheeler's songs (the desperate "Addicted" was a country number one for Dan Seals), but it's only in person that Cheryl Wheeler comes across in full spectrum.
