"A bass player to beat the band"
Electric bassist Victor Wooten has been active as a solo artist and as part of his family's Wooten Brothers Band. You may have encountered him as a member of Bela Fleck's jazz-bluegrass fusion ensemble, the Flecktones. "Everything . . . you hear . . . is live," he says at one point during a Flecktones set, filling the pauses with parades of incredible bass effects that make you wonder how it could possibly be so. There's plenty more where that came from in Victor's own show, a tremendous high-wire act on low-pitched strings that owes some of its inspiration to another Wooten mentor, the inimitable Bootsy Collins. A three-time winner of Bass Player magazine's Bass Player of the Year award, Victor has recently signed with the Vanguard label and released a new album, "Soul Circus."
