"A songwriter-keyboardist on the verge"
New York City's Kenny White is one of those behind-the-scenes musicians who you've always hoped would step out on his own. Touring with artists like Marc Cohn, Shawn Colvin, James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, and even Keith Richards, Kenny would furnish several layers of backing all by himself with his piano and percussion. Since the release of his 2002 debut album, "Uninvited Guest," his jazz-flavored songs have acquired a long list of A-list fans, and now he's a songwriter on the verge of a breakout. Kenny's latest release, the EP "Never Like This," was motivated by frustration at the current political situation--and at the musical response. "As I listen to radio, watch the Grammy awards, and buy my share of music, i find the lack of political outspokenness to be staggering," he says. Kenny last appeared in Ann Arbor on the bill for the 2008 Ann Arbor Folk Festival.
