"Hard-hitting, personal songs, set in stark American landscapes"
Labeling Chris Knight has never been easy. "Americana" just sounds too distant, too souvenir-shop-like, for this tough, unpretentious performer. Trying to capture in words the grace and gutsy power of his music has been a hard task in itself. Yet critics and fans alike have taken a ride with Knight though a vivid landscape of stark musical honesty. On his album "The Jealous Kind," wrote Angie Glover of the Nashville Rage, "Knight keeps true to his Kentucky roots by weaving urban tales from the dark side." And USA Today raved about Chris's current "Enough Rope" album, calling him a songwriter "working in the best storytelling traditions of John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen." Chris has also recently released "The Trailer Tapes," a much-talked-about but rarely heard set of songs he recorded with just a guitar at the very beginning of his career.
