"Two shows!"
Rooted in country and blues styles, the world-famous alternative rock of Cowboy Junkies sounds just like what the name suggests: you can identify the band that's playing their languid, narcotic music after hearing just a few notes. Cowboy Junkies are 20 years old and going strong, and they've recently released a new album: on "At the End of Paths Taken," says the All Music Guide, lead songwriter Michael Timmins undertakes "his bravest and most unflinching examination yet: the family . . . from nuclear to extended to global." Also on hand with new music is Louisiana songwriter Mary Gauthier. Her "Between Daylight and Dark" album, says the Associated Press, shows her to be "among the best singer-songwriters of her generation, especially when it comes to illustrating ramblers, derelicts and anyone who struggles with demons in the night."
