Darol Anger and Mike Marshall, two of the great innovators in American acoustic music for stringed instruments, push each other into new territory when they play together. Since his days as a member of the David Grisman Quintet in the 1970s and 1980s, fiddler Darol Anger has been pushing and erasing the boundaries that separate bluegrass and traditional American string music from jazz, world music, and the avant garde. He helped create a host of innovative new groups, including Psychograss and the Turtle Island String Quartet. Mike Marshall is a virtuoso innovator on mandolin, guitar, and fiddle, and a fearless collaborator last seen at The Ark in a barnburner of a concert with Chris Thile. Darol Anger and Mike Marshall have a new album, "Woodshop," in the works, and tonight you can sample new acoustic music that's really on the forward edge. Chris Proctor will open this evening's show.
